What your residents gain

Outcomes you can see in the building

Reduced scam risk

Residents learn the Pause and Check routine and look out for each other, so suspicious calls and texts get a second opinion.

Reduced isolation

Video calls with family, a residents-only group chat, and a buddy down the hall give people more reasons to connect.

A lasting weekly activity

The Tech Coffee Hour joins your activities calendar and is led by resident champions after we hand it off.

The exchange

What we bring, what we need

We provide

  • Four facilitated one-hour sessions, one per week
  • 7 to 10 trained, vetted student volunteers, about one for every two residents
  • Lesson plans, large-print slides and handouts
  • Large-print flyers to promote sign-ups
  • Certificates and a closing Digital Social
  • Setup and handoff of a weekly resident-run Tech Coffee Hour

We ask for

  • A common room

Seating for 12 to 16 residents, one hour a week for four weeks.

  • Help with sign-ups

A spot on your activities calendar and a word from staff.

  • A staff contact

For scheduling and any resident-specific accessibility needs.

  • Wi-Fi access

    For participants during sessions.

How it works

From first call to Coffee Hour

  1. Send an enquiry

Fill in the form below. It takes about three minutes.

  2. Meet the team

We visit or call to learn about your residents, room and accessibility needs, and agree on media consent.

  3. Schedule & promote

We pick four dates together and send large-print flyers for your notice boards.

  4. Run & hand off

Four sessions, then residents launch their weekly Tech Coffee Hour.

Privacy & safety

Our commitments to your residents

These are written into every volunteer's training.

Read more about safety
  • Plain-language consent

Every participant gives consent in plain language. Taking part is always optional.

  • No central logging

We never log residents' personal messages, emails or security incidents. Scam concerns are handled person to person.

  • Anonymous surveys

Survey data is anonymous and combined. Nothing identifying leaves your facility without written consent.

  • Hands off accounts

Volunteers are oriented on privacy and never handle residents' passwords or financial accounts.

For hosts

Common questions

All questions
Is there any cost to the facility?

No. The program is free for host facilities and residents.

How are volunteers screened?

Every volunteer completes a one-hour mandatory training that covers customer service, teaching methods, privacy and conduct before any live session. We'll walk you through our screening process during our first meeting and follow any additional requirements your facility has.

Can you take photos for your social media?

Only with your facility's agreement and each person's written consent. We agree on media consent before any photos are taken.

What if a resident has hearing or vision loss?

Tell us through your staff contact. Week 1 focuses on accessibility settings such as larger text, louder sound and captions, and volunteers can sit closer or work one-on-one.
